Foundation
In 1936, Leslie England started as a solicitor, working from his mother's living room. By 1938, 7 South Quay, Great Yarmouth was the main office. During the second world war Leslie had been drafted but Leslie's father, John England; a solicitor's managing Clerk, managed the firm. Leslie returned and in 1947 Arthur Stubbs joined. The firm expanded, and an office In Lowestoft was bought. In the 60s, 8 South Quay was acquired and two more partners were recruited. The Lowestoft branch was amalgamated with Bailey Freeman & Co but eventually separated from England & Co.
70's onwards
In the 70s, Arthur's son, Michael, became a junior partner. Leslie retired in 1975. The firm specialised in residential conveyancing, probates, wills and trusts, and some Family and general litigation work. Peter Mason, joined in 1983 and within a year was a partner. Family and general Litigation within the firm grew rapidly. In 1996 Michael Stubbs retired. Peter became the sole Principal. In the 90's the firm grew culminating in the acquisition of Derrick Garwood & Co in 1999 with offices in Gorleston and Martham.Present Position
Peter Mason remains the Principal together with four other solicitors, a legal executive, trainee legal executive, trainee solicitor and a legal clerk. Trainees have been regularly employed. The firm achieved "Investors in People" standard in 1997 showing a commitment and investment in all our employees. The firm meets the Legal Services Commission's Quality Assurance Standard.
